1. Don’t Sell Products, Sell the Idea
Social Media isn’t necessarily a market place, rather, it’s primarily a venue for conversation. Although brands see the importance of putting out your products and publishing them non-stop, it is also important that you provide some social relevance to the products you sell. It’s simply not enough to just say: "For Sale" anymore. You have to prioritize what people will get when they buy it, what is the experience or the culture that you are trying to sell, and how does your post fit in your identity.
A lot of Social Media managers, particularly on Facebook, tell you that the platform is now a “Pay-to-Play” venue. While this is true in some levels, it does not mean that you totally give up on providing unique, engaging, and organic content about your business. Small Businesses have something Big Businesses only dream to have: SPEED. You have the complete advantage of posting almost anything you want, about anything you want. Capitalize on the uniqueness of your brand to display the quirks of why you are the best one out there. Remember: organic posts are vital to the longevity of the page.
Advertising is more than just messages. It is, in some eyes, an art form; a balancing act of mixed media that is available to the business owners 24/7. With so many platforms out there that can create videos, songs or jingles, written content, you have the world at your feet in terms of creating content for your business. The key is looking at a Messaging Strategy that fits the identity of your business. And in order to do that, you have to be aware of all these tools that are available to you, and then ask yourself: what if? Once you have an idea of what you want to do, know that there are millions more you haven’t thought about. Try something new.
Advertising for your Small Business is the scariest thing that you can do, but it can also be the most fun you’ll have running your business. It’s a challenge to sell, but who said it couldn’t be fun? Try something different, and just focus on the things that make you unique as a business. Once you find these things, you’ll be unstoppable.
